World Cup matches on iPhone

ITV is set to launch a free app for iPhone users in the UK to enable them to watch World Cup matches.

Apart from broadcasting World Cup matches on ITV4 across both Wi-Fi and 3G connections, this ad funded web app will also simulcast ITV1 and ITV2.

Red Bee Media has been given the task of building this app that will be monetised through clickable horizontal banners and pre roll advertising. Mediacom and M4C have already negotiated the first three months of advertising. Red Bee Media’s broadcast data services will also provide schedule information in this web app.

Ben McOwen Wilson, Director Online and Interactive, ITV, has noted that this app will not only give advertisers a great chance to connect with viewers but also increase ITV at the forefront of mobile “video on demand” service. This will happen simply because ITV is the only broadcaster in the UK to screen the World Cup on iPhone.
