US FTC allows Google to acquire AdMob

US Federal Trade Commission will not block Google’s acquisition of AdMob, the mobile advertising network.

The decision was taken after Apple launched iAd. FTC will now close its investigation into the acquisition.

Many people were speculating that Google will be stopped on competitive grounds but iAd, Apple’s soon to be launched mobile advertising network persuaded FTC to act otherwise.

FTC stated that AdMob’s success so far on iPhone will not be an accurate indicator of its competitive significance in the future, whether Google owns it or not. However, FTC has promised action if it sees anti-competitive practises in this domain.

Google, as expected, has welcomed the news. On her blog post, VP Product Management, Susan Wojcicki has informed that Google is going to close the deal in the coming weeks and both the teams will immediately start work together.

Omar Hamoui, CEO AdMob, only had one word to say on Twitter – Whew!
