According to an Ofcom report, 83 billion text messages were exchanged in 2008 in UK alone.
The only country that has managed to give competition to UK in terms of texting is the USA. USA, being five times larger than UK in size, has sent 830 billion (which is ten times more) text messages in 2008.
Such a basic feature like texting is still holding a firm place beside the high end applications that the flashy handsets offer. The present generation mobile phones and smartphones give easier accessibility to social networking sites.
People are constantly tweeting and writing on friend’s walls. The survey of 2009 is yet to prove whether that has affected the number of text messages exchanged.
