Smartphone game players outnumber feature phone players

The mobile games market of the US has witnessed a 13 percent slump regarding the subscribers.

There were 50.9 million subscribers between February 2009 and February 2010. comScore has presented a new report that states that the overall fall in the number of subscribers results from the 35 percent slump in feature phone subscription for mobile gaming. Feature phone subscription had accounted for 80 percent of the mobile gaming market till 2009. However, the number of subscription now stands at 29.5 million.

The number of mobile phone gamers playing games on their smart phones has increased to 60 percent. In the last 12 months, the number has reached to 21.4 million. The 47.1 percent smart phone subscribers are three times more likely to use their phones for playing games that 15.7 percent feature phone subscribers.

According to comScore SVP Mobile and senior analyst, Mark Donovan, although mobile gamers have decreased, the number is likely to increase in the future.
