Satellite navigation through mobile on the rise

According to comScore, the global leader in digital marketing, over 21.1 million consumers now use their mobile phones for navigation.

This huge customer base is spread over five large European markets – Britain, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. This data is derived after surveying data on February 2010 usage in these regions. Incidentally, it shows a huge 68%-rise over the number of users in 2009 February.

It has also been recorded by GfK that the combined sales of satellite navigation devices for personal use in 2008 and 2009 touched around 20.4 million.

SatNav is the area which is catching the attention of the mobile handset manufacturers. In 1010 January Nokia paid $8 billion for Navteq and subsequently offered maps to their clients.

comScore also found that almost 68% of the Satnav users accessed their device from their vehicles and almost 27% used their mobile phones while traveling on foot, cycling, or running.

As per comScore’s data users of A-GPS mostly used their mobile phones for navigation on their vehicles.
