The students of pervasive computing and user interface engineering at the Duisburg-Essen University have designed Poker Surface.
The Poker Surface combines a multi touch surface with mobile phones so that the users can use the mobile phone to play poker by directly interacting with the objects on the poker table.
The application has been designed keeping the traditional poker game in mind. Users can tilt, throw or shake the mobile phone to interact with the objects, as they would do naturally. The phone has also been designed to give a real life feel of the poker cards.
The project has been labelled “great student project” by Albert Schmidt, who leads the course. The comment was posted by Prof. Schmidt on the YouTube video posted by the students. A preliminary study has revealed the users prefer using the mobile phone for interaction rather than direct interaction with the objects on the table.
