NTT Docomo launches LTE service

The world’s most advanced mobile market will now have the world’s fastest connectivity.

NTT Docomo has launched its LTE service for the major Japanese cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. The company plans to cover 70% of the Japanese market by 2015. Those leaving the LTE service area are seamlessly absorbed into the 3G network that serves all communities worldwide.

The development of LTE was started by Docomo in 2007. The testing of the service started in July of the same year and downlink rates of 250 Mbps were confirmed outdoors by March 2008. Generally, the connectivity of the LTE service is about 10 times faster than the current 3G service of Docomo in partnership with HSPA.

We have heard that Docomo NTT is planning a massive investment in this domain over the next few years. It is estimated that by 2013, Docomo NTT will spend more than $3.6 billion on the network.
