Nielsen reveals that 5% of US consumers own a tablet

As per the latest stats revealed by Nielsen at the PaidContent Mobile Conference in New York, 4.8% of US consumers bought a tablet by the end of the first quarter of the year.

ielsen also compared the penetration of the tablet in the US market vis-à-vis the other devices. As per their findings, 36% of the US consumers own a smartphone, 13% of them own a media player, 9% own an e-reader and 8.2% of them own a netbook.

As per the stat revealed by Nielsen, those US consumers who own a tablet tend to read more books and watch more videos. They are also happier when it comes to watching advertisements and are more likely to purchase a product or service after viewing an ad.

An intriguing stat is that 70% of tablet owners use it when watching TV and this makes broadcasters and producers more excited about the so called second screen interaction.
