New York startup starts text to talk service

Go800, a New York startup company has started their new service that will help people call friends using their Twitter names rather than their phone numbers.

This new service is called One Text, You Connect. Go800 has pitched itself as a text to talk service where individuals can register their Twitter handles for free. Starter accounts will get 100 minutes free usage per month and they can buy additional minutes from the service.

Once a user registers, Go800 will associate a phone number with their Twitter name. People can then text the Twitter handle to 46800 and connect with a voice call. At the moment, this service is only available in USA and Canada but after 90 days of the launch other social networks will also be supported through this service. Registered members can restrict the service so that only receive calls from people they know. This is the safeguard that has already been placed.
