New feature phone app from Saavn, “the Indian Spotify”

We now have Saavn or South Asian Audio Video Network, touted as “the Indian Spotify” and the firm recently launched a mobile app for feature phones.

It is  offering streaming of Indian, Bollywood and regional South Asian music.

Features phones still outsell smartphones in India and the estimate is that 180 million of them will be shipped this year in the country compared to 20.3 million smartphones.

Saavn is ad-supported and allows users to create playlists and listen for free. It earns revenues from rich media ads and targeted display.

Saavn claims to have the biggest catalogue of Indian music and sources content from more than 200 providers. It is free like Spotify and offers premium features and offline access. It has over a million licensed tracks.

It also offers Facebook, iOS and Android apps.

The new app is hoped to be popular not only in India but in countries like Philippines and Morocco where Indian music is popular. Mobile Blogs
