More than 2 million LTE subscribers for NTT DoCoMo

NTT DoCoMo launched the Xi service on December 24 2010 and has gradually climbed throughout the year.

Christmas 2011 saw them hit the 1 million mark as a huge number of people bought new smartphones and tablets and started using LTE.

It is absolutely clear that the introduction of Galaxy SII and other smartphones that are compatible with the Xi has been a big attraction for the consumers. Most of these phones were launched in November last year. They have contributed to the figures doubling in just a matter of three months.

NTT DoCoMo expects the number of subscriptions to increase further in the coming months as more Xi-based smartphones and tablets are introduced by the manufacturers.

The progress of LTE in Japan is a stark contrast to the situation in the UK. Vodafone had a very recent snap at Ofcom because they supported Everything Everywhere to become UK’s first LTE provider.
