Mobile traffic on Tourism New Zealand site up 250%

Tourism New Zealand’s analysis of its web traffic shows that mobile use while inside New Zealand has seen a dramatic increase between 2011 and 2012.

iPad and smartphone usage in the country rose by 44% and 29% respectively year-on-year.

The TNZ website saw record traffic of upwards of 13.8 million hits in the past year, with mobile visits increasing by a mammoth 250%.

Tourism New Zealand has launched its ‘Essential New Zealand’ app where visitors can browse activities and any of its 1,150 travel experiences without the use of Wi-Fi.

According to Buzz City 60% travellers consider smartphones and tablets as essential travel necessities. Thus, a host of services including tourist info, check-ins and ticketing are getting into mobile device applications.

The new app from Tourism New Zealand will encourage vacationers to do more when they are inside New Zealand – get transport details, find out contacts for their destinations and arrange for accommodation.
