Microsoft has claimed that it has shipped 2 million WinPhone 7 software.
These new figures have been recently received. This mobile operating system, launched last October, has received a lot of critical acclaim but has had a struggle in the retail space.
WinPhone 7 is licensed to LG, Samsung, HTC and other devices and has more than 6,500 apps to support. IDC, an analyst believes that this number of apps is excellent this early in the lifecycle of WinPhone 7.
With so many players in the mobile market now, it does take time for new formats to get established in the market.
The fact remains that Microsoft has a huge ground to cover to reach the numbers generated by Apple iOS and Android. It is well known that Apple sold 16.2 million iPhone units in the fourth quarter and as per Google, Android sells 300,000 units on a daily basis.
