MasterPass to address digital checkout abandonment issues in the UK

MasterCard has now introduced the MasterPass in the UK after running it in Australia, Canada and the USA.

This launch is its first foray into the European market.

MasterPass is a digital wallet to stores card details and it is usable on mobiles, desktops and also in physical stores. It is designed to simplify shopping experiences.

To use the service users need to register their payment and address details once. Then they can checkout using the MasterPass button that will be displayed at the checkouts of various brand partners like Argos, Boots UK, House of Fraser, Seetickets.com and The Hut Group.

In-store MasterPass payments can also work through mobiles with the use of NFC taps or QR code scans or traditional cards.

Digital checkout abandonment in the UK amount to £6 billion per year because users don’t want to fill up lengthy forms or subscribe to other websites. MasterPass could change all of that.
