Lesser roaming charges planned for EU

Internet browsing charges within Europe are set for a drop in July.

A report from Global Telecoms Business states that EU is looking to make it cheaper for people to carry their mobile phones in Europe.

As per the European Commission the prices of making calls, texting, browsing the internet and downloading will come down from July 1.

The biggest drop will be in internet usage where users will pay 30p / MB less, a 36% drop from last year. Calls can be made @ 16p per minute and the cost of sending and receiving texts will be 5p.

Vice President of EC Neelie Kroes mentioned that the price cut will put extra money in the pockets of customers this summer. This is a critical step that the EC has taken to permanently get rid of these premium charges.

The decision was taken due to a request from Cesar Alierta, Executive Officer – Telefornica.
