Huawei planning to be among the “Top 3” smartphone makers inside 5 years

Huawei, the Chinese company, started off with low end devices for emerging markets that have in it massive amount of learning.

It is now planning to manufacture mid and high end devices to capture the smartphone market.

The step in this direction will be to increase its team size of designers from the current number of 300. According to WSJ, Huawei employs people from China, Japan, Europe and the USA.

The report quotes Hagen Fendler, Chief Handset Designer at Huawei who said that the company wants to be among the top three smartphone makers inside the next five years. In order to achieve this, the company will look to broaden its portfolio. The important shift for Huawei will be to achieve quality growth and this can be done by addressing different consumers in the mid and high end market.

Huawei released Ascend D Quad, its first high end smartphone, last month and it’s due to release in QII.
