Guardian to debut free on Android

The Guardian has always been aggressively experimenting with digital ideas.

Its iPhone app debuted in the Apple App Store last January and offers limited The Guardian content for free. To get full access users need to pay £2.99 for a six month subscription and £3.99 for a year’s subscription. The Guardian in July confirmed more than half a million downloads of the app.

Now The Guardian is about to target the users of Android. However, it has accepted that Android is not the best platform to have for premium apps and hence, it has gone by the way of ad funded apps. The Guardian is banking on the fact that there are more 150 million active Android devices across the world and the potential is huge.

The alternative to the app is The Guardian mobile website. As per reports received, the mobile site had more than 4 million unique visitors only in May. is the home of mobile bingo – our current favourite is mmmBingo.
