Games create half the revenue for Apple’s App Store

Distimo, the analytics startup, and Newzoo, the marketing research company, have now partnered to release a series of monthly reports on game downloads and sales on Apple’s App Store.

They released their first figures a couple of days ago.

As per them, half of all the paid and free downloads on Apple’s App Store are games. They managed to track 63 million iOS gamers in Belgium, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, the UK and the US who download 2.5 games on an average a month. This means more than five million downloads a day in these seven countries.

The same study estimated that about 40% of all iOS game revenues are being generated through in-app purchases and the major revenue is being generated by those games that have a free trial period. The study also came up with the stat that depending on their location, 50 to 75 percent of iPhone owners play games.
