Five billion mobile subscriptions now

Ericsson, based on industry information, has confirmed that the five billionth mobile subscriber was added to the world list last week.

As per Ericsson, China and India have added considerably to this five hundred billion number of mobile subscribers. The number of mobile subscribers in both these countries has gone up substantially and there is no let off in sight.

As per the company, mobile broadband services are also growing at a hectic pace and the number is expected to hit 3.4 billion by 2015, up from 360 million in 2009. In the more mature markets, it is the connected devices that are increasing the traffic of network.

As per Ericsson, a 50 billion connections figure will be reached by the time we come to the end of this decade.

What is noteworthy is that China alone has more mobile subscribers that the entire world had in 2000 – about 720 million.
