Diarrhoea, flu or pinkeye? Check your mobile

Mobile users are becoming more intimate with their phones and it hardly comes as a surprise to know that the devices can spread bacteria, germs and diseases.

Diarrhoea, flu and pinkeye are the most common ailments caused due to proximity to mobiles. While certain available products can rid devices of residual filth they can also damage the phones.

Eight phones were chosen at random from an office in Chicago and they were tested by HML Labs of Muncie. There were no staphylococci or E. Coli but there were unusually high numbers of coliforms, indicating fecal contamination.

There were between 2,700 and 4,200 units of coliform bacteria in the eight phones. Compare this to drinking water where the limit is less than 1 unit per 100 ml.

HML Labs used various cleaners for cleaning – alcohol, Nice ‘N Clean electronic cleaning wipes, water and Windex Original glass cleaner. Alcohol was most effective and water least so.

Mobile Bingo is becoming more and more popular in the UK – try a game of mmmBingo or iPhone Bingo.
