Data services to contribute to 40% revenue market share for carriers

Informa conducted a research that was commissioned by Motricity and confirmed that data will contribute to 40% of all mobile revenue by 2015.

This is a substantial number given the fact that the total revenue is estimated at 1.1 trillion dollars.

As per the data received from carriers, messaging has a share of 35% of all data services, followed by mobile Internet at 17% and music at 14%. But it is estimated that in the next two years, messaging will drop to 26% and mobile Internet will grow to 29% and social networking to 28%, this becoming the key drivers for revenue.

There was no surprise in the Motricity fact that carriers are now keener on moving to a managed service model for data offerings to speed up the adoption of new services and also to reduce cost. Outsourcing services will give operators more time to implement more direct customer interaction activities.
