BlackBerry incurs big loss even with 13% rise in quarterly shipments

BlackBerry saw an increase in shipments of 13% over the past quarter but still predicted a loss in the next quarter.

There were 6.8 million smartphones shipped during the quarter but it’s not mentioned how many are Blackberry 10 devices.

The overall revenues of the company went up to £3.1 billion in the first three months of 2013 but BlackBerry still made a loss of $84 million.

The latest financial report from Blackberry stated that sequentially its revenue went up by 15% and 9% annually but the loss was close to the $94 million profit made in 2012.

Even then Blackberry plans to continue to invest in the global launches of Blackberry 10 smartphones and the Blackberry Enterprise Service 10, an attempt to establish markets for the new service. It will also continue investments for the BB Messenger improvements in the hope to transform it into the leading cross-platform, mobile social messaging app.
