BBC Sport says mobiles account for 43% of its web traffic

BBC Sport got introduced to iOS on January 7th and has already notched up a million downloads in the UK.

Its growth has been further fuelled with its Android launch that happened last week.

The broadcaster says that it experienced web traffic of 42 million unique visitors and more than a billion page views in January. Mobile has turned out to be a real game turner for BBC Sport. 43.4% of all traffic has been generated by tablets and phones, up from 31% in January 2012.

BBC Sport considers this to be a great achievement and is already working on a big project to improve its mobile content. It delivered a record breaking coverage of the London 2012 Olympics. And a new and responsive mobile website for Android and iOS has been launched.

Some key features have been migrated to the mobile site, including live scores and stats and video.
