April saw 8.8 million UK mobile users access Internet through apps

As per the findings published GSMA and ComScore as part of the GSMA MMM product portfolio 8.8 million UK mobile subscribers went online in April using apps.

The GSMA MMM product portfolio, incidentally, was launched in February of last year. The findings include monthly reports on mobile Internet behavior and a detailed analysis of different access methods.

Google Maps leads the group with 6.4 million unique users, reaching 73.3% of all the app users in the UK. Yahoo! Weather came second with 3.6 million unique users. Facebook completes the top three with 3.5 million unique users. Google Mobile and YouTube came in at fourth and fifth.

Henry Stevens, Media Director of GSMA commented that apps have now become an important access point for mobile content and with smartphones now proliferating the market, their usage will further increase. As per Mr. Stevens, these insights in the UK market will help them understand the existing mobile ecosystem.
