£78 Million Spent in Advertising Campaigns by Mobile Industry

In 2009 the mobile phone industry is estimated to have spent a whooping £78 million on marketing campaigns alone.

According to a research by Neilson, it has been noted that there has been a clear 10 percent increase in the annual budget for mobile phone advertising campaigns in 2009. However, a study by Gartner shows that despite this increase, the mobile phone sales have remained unaffected.

Smartphones have amounted to 14 percent of the mobile sales in 2009. There has been an annual increase of 23.6 percent in the sale of smartphones last year. Gartner predicts that 2013 will witness an increase of 38 percent in the sale of smartphones.

Jeff Taylor, the co-founder and marketing director of INQ Mobile said that the mobile industry lavishly spends money to attract people. However, the expensive campaigns have not pulled up the sales as the business was dependent on several “dull” campaigns.

mmmBingo, the mobile-only bingo brand, hit the small screen with a nationwide TV advertising campaign in 2009.
