263% rise in tablet use in the New Year

Christmas 2011 saw millions of tablets being handed out as gifts.

As per Jumptap, the mobile advertiser, the tablet network traffic rose up to 229% on Boxing Day. The traffic increase rose to 263% on January 2nd 2012 as new owners test rode their new gizmos.

Kindle Fire from Amazon had the highest growth among all tablets in December 2011 as it cornered 10% of the total market share. By the end of the year, this figure was up to 30%. It is estimated that 6 million Kindle Fire devices have been sold since the launch in November.

Android and iOS continued to battle with Android’s share up by 21% from December 20120 to reach 59% overall. Apple fell by 7% but had triple overall traffic on the Jumptap network.

Results also show that the advertisement market for mobile web and apps are growing at the same rate with no red light looming ahead.
