251,000 new O2 contract customers in Q1

Q1 of 2013 has been great for O2 as it added 251,000 new contract customers.

This is the highest number that the company has achieved in four years. This news comes from Mobile News.

The Q1 additions for O2 are also up 13% y-on-y. The number of contract customers is also up y-on-y by 3%. This takes the number of O2 contract customers to 12.15 million, which is 53% of its total mobile customer base.

Everything was, however, not rosy as O2 lost 204,900 prepay customers, taking the total number 10.76 million.

The overall mobile customer base for O2 now stands at 22.9 million subscribers.

O2 revenues for Q1 fell by 4.8% y-on-y to £1.365 billion. However, the operator claimed that excluding the effects of Mobile Termination Rates and roaming regulation, the total revenue drop was just 1% y-on-y.
