25% increase in mobile payments in the UK

Daily deal aggregator Bownty has revealed that spending through mobiles has seen a 25% increase between January and June of this year.

It is quite apparent that this spike is mostly due to the growing number of tablet and smartphone users. In January Bownty had a third of its transactions coming through mobile devices and now the share of mobiles has increased to 40%.

People in the UK use their mobile devices to make average daily deal purchases of over £500,000 – from beauty treatments to restaurant vouchers and others. The overall local and national deals purchases per day top £1.3 million on an average day.

This could be largely attributed to the fact that impulse buying has gone up now. People see mobile ads and they make purchases instantly without waiting to get back home. Shopping on the move has now become a reality with more and more people embracing the concept.
